When is the last time you did something for the first time?

Better yet, when was the last time you did something for the first time and you completely fell head over boots in love with that something?

For me, that something was fly fishing. From the first time I picked up a rod I knew that it was something I wanted to immerse myself in and spend more time doing. But learning this new skill seemed so overwhelming. Where do I even begin?

Luckily, I was scrolling Instagram one day and came across a blog post that Laurel Monaghan had written about her goals for the upcoming year. In that post, she mentioned that one of her goals was to teach 5+ Fly Fishing 101 Classes in 2018. As soon as I read that, an idea sparked … what if her and I teamed up to combine our strengths and passions to host a Women’s Fly Fishing Retreat? So that’s exactly what we did. A few retreats, lots of laughs and a ton of lessons learned later, we’ve found the flow that we feel works best. While no two retreats are the same, here is a sample agenda of what you can expect:

Sample Agenda:

DAY 1

  • Arrive late afternoon/early evening
  • Meet & Greet Dinner
  • Classroom Session – Intro to Water Safety, Entomology, Knots, Basic Bugs, Fish Handling
  • Campfire

 

DAY 2

  • Sunrise Yoga
  • Breakfast
  • Classroom Session – Casting 101
  • On-the-water – Miami River
  • River Bank Picnic Lunch
  • More fishing on the river
  • Dinner
  • Vision Board Workshop
  • Campfire

 

DAY 3

  • Breakfast
  • On-the-water – Mad River
  • River Bank Picnic Lunch
  • Kayak Trip
  • More fishing on the river
  • Dinner
  • Bonfire

 

DAY 4

  • Breakfast
  • Casting games with prizes
  • Depart around noon
